Where have I been???

by Adams Innovative on Apr.07, 2010, under Social Media

Okay, so I’ve been neglecting my blogging duties. I’ve been crazy swamped with web design lately and just haven’t found a minute to sit down and write a new blog.

Since my last blog, the iPad has hit the market… no I haven’t gotten one yet, but as soon as I have the extra $520 I will absolutely be an owner. But that’s not what I’m going to blog about today.

If you’re a geo-tagger, all the rage is FourSquare and GoWalla. But if you’re like me you probably are on both… just like we were on both MySpace and Facebook. We’ll, now that MySpace is dead, it’s a good think I went with Facebook. That same thing could happen here. FourSquare is the preferred app, however out of nowhere GoWalla could take over!

How do you prepare for this? Easy. http://check.in – it’s a mobile browser app (so you don’t have to buy it) that will use your existing accounts to check you in all-in-one! How awesome is that. It’s like Ping.fm for geo-tagging.

Right now it’s only available through invitation only – and via invitations that I have no control over. But I suggest jumping on this one ASAP, it will clearly save you time.

Foursquare rolling out a new look in the iPhone.

by Adams Innovative on Mar.07, 2010, under Social Media

This week I had to reach out to the good people at Foursquare, looking to get access to a larger version of their logo (you might notice it next time you walk into Carson City Saloon). They were very easy to get a long with and I was able to pass them on an idea that perhaps in the future they might consider.

Anyhow, one of their graphic designers mentioned that “as soon as things slow down here I would love to look into that”. “Slow down” what ever was he talking about??? As I flip through today’s updates on Mashable, I find myself not so surprised to see an article about their new look that is coming to the iPhone. It all makes sense now.

The new look is pretty exciting as this company is growing and growing. I’m very much interested to see how things continue – especially now that they seemed to really be interested in what I’m doing with them here in Pittsburgh. :)

You can check out that article with many pictures here:

SquarePik for FourSquare

by Adams Innovative on Feb.12, 2010, under Social Media

As I suspected with yesterday’s post about Google Buzz, today was all about Google Buzz… talks about new features they should add, who they should integrate with and much more.  You may not be surprised to hear the top ranking suggestions were about Facebook and Twitter.  Today they also added a counter to their plugin, now it resembles the similar functioned ReTweet and Facebook Fshare buttons.  It seems like Google’s off to a good start, we’ll see how it goes, maybe soon you’ll see some of those buttons on this blog too.

FourSquare
launched a sister-app recently SquarePik, now you can upload pictures of your favorite locations when you check in with FourSquare.  If you’re reading this thinking, “What the hell is FourSquare?” you need to grab your iPhone, Android or Blackberry and download the app now!  It’s sort of a game, while also an important social media tool that ties in with your Facebook and Twitter accounts.  Whenever you go somewhere, you open the FourSquare app and “check-in”, you get points if it’s the first time you’ve been somewhere and you get points for going to multiple places per day.  The more points you earn the better you are.  Also, if you’ve been to a place the most, you are named Mayor, of course, until someone else has more visits than you.

Some predict that as more and more businesses start taking advantage of social media, we’ll be seeing benefits for getting involved.  One thing I read was that bars or restaurants would have a special deal for Mayors, free appetizer, private drink special… it can be as creative as you want, the sky is the limit.  So, get in now! (and add me as a friend – adamsinnovative, you can find me as a visitor at Carson City Saloon in the Southside)

Remember, if you’re business is looking to boost your online presence, visit www.adamsinnovative.com and schedule a free review of what we can do for you.  We also offer custom graphic design and video production at the most affordable professional rates in Pittsburgh (maybe even the entire US).
