Pandora Radio – 40 Hour Limit
by Adams Innovative on Feb.13, 2010, under Online Music
Are you a Pandora listener? If you are, you know you’re probably killing radio stations with every click… but that’s fine by me. I truthfully haven’t listened to broadcast radio stations in years – ever since getting my iPod (which is on it’s last leg as we speak). Now with my iPhone I listen to Pandora Radio nearly all day long. If you haven’t tried Pandora, you absolutely should, you have no idea what you’re missing.
Pandora Radio uses a thing called the Music Genome Project. Basically speaking, it uses this system where it breaks all music down to their “genes“, there are around 400 genes that a song can have. Using these genes it analyzes a song or artist you like, to find similar songs - for example, if you enter artist, Black Eyed Peas, you’re likely to hear songs from Sean Paul, Rihanna, and Maroon 5. When you enter and artist, it becomes a station, from there you can rate your music – thumbs up or thumbs down, this tells Pandora whether or not to play that song again. You’ll listen to music that only YOU like, and get to discover more music that you might never have heard before! Pandora is awesome. Oh, by the way, it’s free through single advertising breaks between every few songs.
Recently I have found a small hiccup, the FREE version only allows for 40 hours a month of playing. Either this is new, or I haven’t neared this number in the past year of using Pandora. Pandora can be listed to via mobile phone and/or your computer online. Since I have been listening almost all day long while working, I guess I flew through my free hours. It then prompted me to pay either 99¢ for the rest of the month, or $36 for the year (which would unlock additional features). So, out of respect for the musical artists, and to no longer hear advertisements, I opted for the $36/yr. If you are a Pandora user, you might want to consider this option, as you can now access their Adobe Air stand-alone player (which I have installed on all of my computers).
If you have any questions, post a comment and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
